After the BJP MLAs walked out of the West Bengal Assembly, while Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose was delivering his speech, BJP Bengal President Sukanta Majumdar wrote a letter to him and personally handed it over to him. In the letter, the BJP chief alleged that the education system in the state has broken down. "With due regards and under a compelling situation, I am bound to draw your attention to save the education system of West Bengal from further downfall," wrote Majumdar.
Three days ago, when Governor CV Ananda Bose addressed the assembly for the first time, BJP MLAs staged a strike, alleging that he had been misled by the TMC government and should follow in the footsteps of "other governors". BJP legislators shouted slogans against the "corrupt" Mamata Banerjee government, which they said had prepared a speech for Bose that had "no relation to reality".
Sukanta Majumdar wrote that the Governor must have already been aware that CBI and ED investigations were underway in the Education Commission recruitment scam. "Already thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff have been terminated by the Kolkata high court and the counting is still going on. Nobody knows when it will stop" wrote the BJP president of Bengal.
He also alleged that the vice-chancellors of various universities were appointed by the state without keeping the chancellor in the loop, who is himself the governor. He wrote, "I would rather beg to draw your attention to the fact that the state government under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appointed Vice Chancellors to a large number of Universities without the consent or knowledge of the Chancellor, and also violating the rules of UGG. These we believe are deliberately done to crush the backbone of society by degrading its education system of view of the above it is my fervent request to immediately cancel all the illegal appointments of the Vice Chancellors in the Universities."
On the last day of the budget session, TMC and BJP legislators also engaged in fisticuffs, leading to the hospitalization of several MLAs after heated arguments over arson killing in Birbhum district's Bogtui village. At least ten people were killed in the arson and violence that followed the murder of a local TMC leader. The CBI is investigating the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
